Following Your Goals And Dreams

Lately, I have been noticing more and more people sharing stories about how they managed to become successful by pursuing their dreams which inspired me to write this article. One of the things that really sparked me to write about this topic was Casey Neistat's talk on TEDx.

For those of you that aren't familiar with who Casey is, he is a YouTube vlogger with almost 7 million subscribers. He dedicated his entire life to his passion and managed to make a living out of it. I personally admire his perseverance to such a great extent and it inspires me to do the same with mountain biking. As Casey also mentions in his TED talk , looking out for any opportunities and immediately grasping them is vital for your success. Being able to sustain yourself and your loved ones while doing something you love is honestly something every single person in this world should strive for.

However, I feel like so many people tend to put their passion aside so they can please society's wants and needs as well as the people around them, instead of trying to figure out what makes them happy as a person. You aren't and shouldn't be living your life for anyone else other than yourself. The fact that you are alive is a miracle by itself, so every person should try to at least make something out of it. People like Casey should be praised for their accomplishments, for being able to stand out from other people, for resisting society's tendency to suck out all of the creativity and uniqueness from every single one of us. Keep in mind that he achieved all of this coming from a middle class family living at a trailer home and having a pregnant girlfriend at the age of 15, dropping out of high school to wash dishes for money.

Another similar example, in the biking community this time, is Brian Kennedy (BKXC). He quit his job about a year ago to start a YouTube channel dedicated to showcasing and riding mountain bike trails with his GoPro. Taking the risk of quitting your job to follow your passion is truly admirable and is something I respect more than anything. Brian managed to reach past 40 thousand subscribers and is slowly but surely gaining even more popularity. Brian Kennedy's passion for mountain biking and his determination to make opportunities for himself is what earned him his place in the mountain biking community. Brian and Casey are the two main figures that inspired me to start this blog about mountain biking and pursue my passion for it and I would just like to thank both of them for that.

The point I'm trying to make by mentioning those two examples is that people that trusted and didn't doubt themselves while striving to achieve their goal and make their passion something that could sustain them, managed to become successful. Everyone has different passions and life goals but what's important is that we all try to pursue them, no matter what or how difficult it might seem. What ultimately matters in this life of ours is that we track down and follow what makes us happy. Not our parents, not our friends, not anyone but ourselves. Opportunities are and will be right in front of us, we just have to open up our eyes and grasp them.

We have to bear in mind though, that sacrifices must be made in order to achieve our goals. Even if that means dropping out of university that you studied for years to get into, or quitting that really good paying job. We have to realize that in the end feelings of regret for not taking such chances will keep us up at night and haunt us. It would truly mean the world to me if this article can inspire even just one person to go out there and pursue what they love instead of letting it get overshadowed by society's expectations of us. Maybe it doesn't work out, or maybe it just didn't turn out the way we wanted it to, it will still reveal many aspects of life that might have been hidden.

In my opinion, when striving to achieve a goal, it's the journey to getting there that will make it truly memorable and worth going through. It will contain all of our experiences; good or bad that in the end make every single one of us who we are.
